Senior Level Linux Professional (LPIC-3 Program Description)
The LPIC3 Certification program represents the culmination of LPI’s Certification Program.
LPIC3 is designed for the “enterpriselevel” Linux professional. The program has been developed with the input of hundreds of Linux professionals from around the globe and with input from some of the world’s leading technology companies. It also represents the highest level of professional, distributionneutral Linux certification within the industry.
The LPIC3 program consists of a single exam for LPIC3 “Core” designation. A number of “specialty” exams are proposed as additional designations on top of the LPIC3 “Core” certification. Proposed specialties include the following: Mixed Environment, Security, High Availability and Virtualization, Web and Intranet, and Mail and Messaging. The first such “specialty” designation, “Mixed Environment” was made available in January 2007 and “Security” was released in February 2009.
Senior Level Linux Professional (LPIC3 “Core” and LPI Specialty)

PreRequisites: you must have an active LPIC2 certification to receive LPIC3 certification, but the LPIC2 and LPIC3 exams may be taken in any order
Requirements: Corepassing the 301 exam. Specialtypassing the 301 exam and any one of the LPI 302 306 exams to receive the respective specialty certification
Overview of Tasks: to pass LPIC3 “Core” someone should:
Have several years experience with installing and maintaining Linux on a number of computers for various purposes
Have integration experience with diverse technologies and operating systems
Have professional experience as, or training for, an enterprise level Linux professional. (Including having experience as a part of another role)
Know advanced and enterprise levels of Linux administration including installation, management, security, troubleshooting and maintenance
Be able to use open source tools to measure capacity planning and troubleshoot resource problems
Have professional experience using LDAP to integrate with Unix services and Windows services, including Samba, PAM, email, Active Directory
Be able to plan, architecture, design, build and implement a full environment using Samba and LDAP as well as measure the capacity planning and security of the services
Be able create scripts in Bash or Perl or has knowledge of at least one system programming language (such as C)
Overview of Tasks: to pass LPI302 (Mixed Environment) Specialty someone should:
Have necessary skills and experience as outlined in LPIC3 “Core” exam
Have professional experience using Samba to integrate file and print services with Windows, including user management, domain control, security and performance tuning
Be able to plan, architecture, design, build and implement a complete multiuser environment using Samba
Overview of Tasks: to pass LPI303 (Security) Specialty someone should:
Have necessary skills and experience as outlined in LPIC3 “Core” exam
Design and implement customized solutions to complex automation problems such as multisite enterprises and heavyduty Internet sites
Initiate projects and work against a budget.
Supervise assistants and help trouble shoot problems.
Serve as a consultant to higher management.
Exam 117-301: Detailed Objectives
Exam 117-301 is the sole exam for LPIC3 designation. It tests skills in authentication, troubleshooting, network integration and capacity planning.

This is a required exam for LPI certification Level 2. It covers advanced skills for the Linux professional that are common across all distributions of Linux.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: These are the current 201 objectives, which are valid effective 2009-04-01.
Each objective is assigned a weighting value. The weights range roughly from 1 to 10 and indicate the relative importance of each objective. Objectives with higher weights will be covered in the exam with more questions.
Exam 202: Detailed Objectives
This is a required exam for LPI certification Level 2. It covers advanced skills for the Linux professional that are common across all distributions of Linux.

Live Form Creation
First, we select items covering each objective and place these on complete test forms. There will be two forms (versions) of each test. Each form will consist of approximately 60-100 items, chosen from all of the test objectives. When a candidate takes the exam, he or she will receive one of the forms. If they should fail that exam and go back to retake it, they will receive the second form. (If they fail again, they will get the first form on their third attempt.)
Note that the VUE test engine randomly orders the questions of each form when someone takes the exam. If two candidates sat down next to each other at a VUE test center and both wound up with form 1, the order of the questions would still be random and so they would not view the questions in the same sequence.
